Me, Mommy

Never in a Million Years

photo-1519307212971-dd9561667ffbShe stood in the kitchen cooking dinner, just like every other night. Except this time, she glanced up to see her children busy playing. She looked at them, really looked at them and she cried.

Never in a million years could she have imagined this day. Standing right smack in the middle of this life, scrubbing potatoes, exhaustion written on her face and looking at a world displayed right before her.  A world she’d only tried to envision, but could never quite see in its entirety.

The beauty and reality hit hard.

The story, it all began with a first date. She thought he was so handsome and funny. They sat holding hands, so many unknowns along their journey just waiting for them to discover. Never in a million years could they have imagined their relationship now. They had so much life ahead of them and yet that night, it all seemed so far away.

Years later they were married on a hot, sandy beach. Her gown flowed in the warm breeze, his smile full of joy. At the time, they could only see that day. Such a significant event consuming their thoughts. They walked along the shore, hand in hand, a pink sunset guiding their steps. Never in a million years could they have imagined what the following years would hold or how fast they would pass by.

They continued to walk along a path full of many beautiful sunsets after that night, hand in hand. Their book starting to fill with adventure and wonder and tears and love and life, each page turning faster. Never in a million years could they have known the story about to unfold.

Babies were born, bringing a whole new life to their house. Kissing soft, wiggly toes took over her days. Singing and rocking and staring into eyes full of wonder, vowing to answer all the questions and always be a good mom became her new mission. Never in a million years could she have imagined how hard both would be.

Now here she stands looking back and looking forward and looking at this day slowly come to an end. She’s thankful and knows never in a million years could she imagine the pages that are yet to be written.
